After School Programs
After School Program messages air in the first quarter of a new year and can also air during the back to school season of August and September. Their stated goal is to get kids signed up for youth athletic and activities programs that repeated studies have shown to be highly beneficial.
#1
(Biz name + city)…reminds parents that when it comes to after school programs for kids, athletics can be the way to go. A study from California State University at Fullerton says research has found that after-school youth sports programs are probably the best after-school programs there are in terms of psycho-social benefits. Involvement in youth sports is a better predictor of academic success than are family income or education. And kids who participate in sports have less absenteeism, higher grade point averages in high school, and are less likely to use drugs. And athletics somehow keep you connected to school. The Center for Addiction and Mental Health says a 2004 study shows that 96-percent of dropouts did not participate in sports. (biz name)…asks parents to sign-up your kids for a spring or summer program now that could benefit your youngsters for a lifetime. This is from… (Biz name + city. #2
(Biz name + city)…asks parents to consider the lifetime benefits of getting kids involved in youth activities. The National Survey on Drug Use and Health asks teens about how many different school, community, and faith-based activities or hobbies they participated in during the past 12 months. They were also asked about their use of cigarettes, alcohol, or drugs. It found that most kids who are involved in youth programs are far less likely to smoke, drink or use drugs. Only seven percent of kids in such programs tried marijuana. The figure rose to 10 percent for those not in activities programs. Also, 89 percent of teens in school-based activities avoided smoking cigarettes, while 20 percent smoked who were not in activities programs. (Biz name) says your child’s participation in music, sports, arts, or club activity is not only fun, it’s smart. That’s good advice from… (Biz name + city. #3
(Biz name + city)…reminds parents that the latest word on kids and drug use includes both good news and bad. The good news from a University of Michigan study is that the number of older teens who use illicit drugs or alcohol continues to decline. The bad news is that younger teens are not decreasing their substance abuse. And experts are concerned about the continuing high usage rates of Oxycotin and other prescription drugs. (Biz name) says fighting drug and alcohol use by our kids becomes easier when you enroll them in positive youth programs. Kids involved in sports, music, or arts do better in school and are far less likely to use drugs or alcohol. Sign up your kids today and help arm them against the bad news. The following message is generously paid for by… (Biz name + city)… A recent University study reports that involvement in youth sports is a better predictor of academic success than are family income or education. Sports teach kids how to strive for goals, how to put forth effort, and how to cooperate with others. Oh, and they’re great fun, too. All these things are true for kids with physical disabilities as well as the able bodied. Northwest Adaptive Sports helps kids with disabilities enjoy the benefits of youth sports. Northwest Adaptive Sports is a non-profit tax-exempt 5-0-1-C-3 organization. N-A-S is dedicated to the promotion of the well being of physically challenged youth, by giving them the opportunity to compete in recreational activities, including basketball, swimming, and track. They need your help. Kids with physical challenges are still kids. Please give what you can. Find out more on line at northwest-adaptive-sports-dot-org. Teen Drinking Prevention
While it can be successfully argued that these messages could air at any time of the year, we choose to make them available during the 2nd quarter of the calendar year to coordinate with the frequency of teen drunk driving accidents associated with Spring Break, Prom, and Graduation. The goal is to save lives, period.
#1
(Biz name + city)…reminds parents that for many teens, drinking is "the thing to do." If you want to be popular peer pressures encourage drinking. Ads in magazines, on radio, and particularly on TV make drinking seem glamorous and even necessary in order to be happy. The respected Vanderbilt University Wellness Program adds that alcohol use and abuse can be a way for teens to try to show maturity and independence. After all, teens may reason, mom and dad drink, so it must be OK. Talk with your teen frequently about alcohol, drugs, sex, and other topics important in a teen’s life. Give them the facts about the dangers and how you feel about alcohol use. And most important __ (biz name) ... says to tell your kids to never drink and drive or ride with someone who has been drinking. Remind them that their future may be dependent on them calling you for a ride. That’s good advice from… (Biz name + city. Caring businesses like _ (biz name & location) _ asks parents is there anything more tragic in life than the death of a child. Yet a 2004 study found that 10 teens die every day in the United States as a result of car crashes. The three leading causes of death for those ages 15- to 24 are automobile crashes, homicides and suicides. And according to research -- alcohol is a leading factor in all three. Don’t drink and drive efforts, like this message, do work. From 1986 to 1995, alcohol-related fatalities dropped 28%. This drop is attributed to stronger laws and enforcement, and good consumer education. (Biz name)... says to stop unnecessary teen deaths by talking to your kids about alcohol. And tell them to never drink and drive, they’re too precious to lose. That’s an important reminder from … (Biz name + city. Caring businesses like _ (biz name & location)…reminds you the old excuse "Teens will be teens” when it comes to drinking and driving doesn't cut it anymore. We just know too much about the risks associated with driving after drinking too much. Add to this teenagers inexperience behind the wheel combined with their inexperience with alcohol and you’ve got a lethal mixture. Drinking and driving isn’t the only problem associated with teen drinking. Dependence on alcohol and other drugs is also associated with several mental health problems including depression, anxiety, and antisocial behavior. (Biz name)... reminds you that if a person reaches age 21 without abusing alcohol it’s likely they never will. Tell your kids this, and plant a seed for their brighter future. Tell them to never drink and drive and never abuse alcohol or drugs. This is from… (Biz name + city. Sentence or 2 about the business, perhaps just the company slogan. + contact information such as web site, physical address, or phone number. Biz name + city).
#4
(Biz name & location)…reminds parents that the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports that drinking and driving remains the number one cause of death amongst persons between 15 and 20 years of age. According to experts lack of parental support, monitoring, and communication can be related to frequency of drinking, heavy drinking, and drunkenness among teenagers. Also harsh, inconsistent discipline and hostility has been found to significantly predict adolescent drinking and alcohol-related problems. It’s tough to be a parent. And certainly teens don’t make it easy for Mom and Dad. But (biz name)...says putting forth the extraordinary effort that is required to be a good parent beats the alternative. Take the time to tell your kids not to drink and drive. This is from…(Biz name + city. Military Recognition
Most Americans recognize that those who serve in our military truly are the best of us. For those who don’t and for those serving who don’t hear it enough we offer these messages at Memorial Day, Independence Day, and Veterans Day. Our goal is to state our beliefs using unvarnished facts and therefore refute any uneducated views that conflict with the truth.
#1
(Biz name + city)… reminds you that the US armed forces have been at the forefront of life saving endeavors for the past century. Service men and women put their lives on the line and are deserving of our appreciation. Americans have healed more sick and injured, fed more hungry, and freed more oppressed peoples than any nation in human history. Our soldiers, sailors, marines and flyers then return home and make our communities better too. Military veterans lead successful businesses at a much higher rate than those from virtually any other background. A recent study says 22 percent of veterans are either purchasing or starting a new business. (Biz name)…says during this (Patriotic holiday) seek out the veterans you know and just say thanks. That’s good advice from… (Biz name + city. Sentence or 2 about the business, perhaps just the company slogan. + contact information such as web site, physical address, or phone number. #2
(Biz name + city)…reminds fellow Americans that for more than 30 years those who have served in our military forces have done so voluntarily. Soldiers, sailors, flyers, marines, and Coast Guard personnel who died on duty gave their lives for us, the U-S. Our service men and women serving now do so voluntarily. A sense of patriotism could be their motivation. Or it could be the educational and career opportunities available to those who serve. In recent years a desire to respond to terrorist attacks, like 9-11 could be the factor that drives Americans to volunteer for such difficult and life threatening service. (Biz name)…says it’s our responsibility to remember that veterans and current military personnel serve voluntarily and for truly honorable reasons. That’s a thought for __ (national holiday) __, it’s from… (Biz name + city. Buy Local, Buy American
Total Broadcasting Service’s newest series of messages premiered successfully in the Summer of '08 and combats bad economic news when it occasionally becomes overwhelming. We offer strong, common sense money saving advice; and urge all Americans to help their neighbors get through tough economic times by supporting each other, local charities, businesses and American made products. Most importantly we encourage people not to be fearful and if their finances allow it, to go out and BUY.
#1
(Biz name + city)…reminds listeners that tough economic times come and go. Nobody likes them, but we all get through them eventually. If you are feeling the economic pinch right now experts say there are simple steps you can take to lesson the hurt. If you have two cars or more drive the more fuel efficient of the two. Better yet, drive less and use mass transit. Buy store brand rather than national brand groceries. Always shop with a list. This helps curtail impulse buys. Watch out for deals on things that your friends need, and have them do the same for you. Support local charities. And most importantly, (Biz name)…says buy local and buy American made products. Support your community's businesses because they support you. That’s an important message from a proud American business… (Biz name + city. #2
(Biz name + city)…reminds fellow Americans that tough economic times come and go, and if you’re feeling the pinch many common sense steps can be taken to lower your expenses and ease the hurt. Save money on gasoline by combining errands into one trip. Make certain your tires are properly inflated and remove unnecessary excess weight from your trunk or back seat. In the home turn off lights and unplug appliances not in use. Evan when not being used they’re still drawing electricity. Close closet and shower doors and bathroom heating and cooling vents so you’re not paying to heat or cool unused areas of your home. Most importantly (Biz name)…says help others. Support the local businesses in your community. They employ your friends, family, and neighbors. Buy local, and buy American made products. That’s a friendly suggestion from… (Biz name + city. #4
(biz name in location)…reminds you that experts say the surest way to shorten a recession is for those who have money to spend it. A continual flow of bad economic news can scare and depress people. It can cause them to hold onto their money and refrain from buying the things they want or need. But even during the worst economic downturn a huge majority of people have jobs, and a huge majority of those with jobs have little risk of loosing them. (Biz name)… asks you to please not give in to fear. If you have the money and need a car, buy a car. If you want a new home and have the down payment, go buy your new home. Buy whatever you need and can responsibly afford. And when possible buy local, and buy American. Together we can grow our prosperity and more readily help those truly in need. Child Safety - Abuse of children in the United States comes in various forms including physical and sexual. Our messages arm parents with information that they can use to better keep safe their own kids from whatever might threaten them. We air these messages in the summer when kids are out of school, and during the back to school season when distractions abound.
#1
(Biz name + city)…reminds you that the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children says more than 700-thousand children are reported missing every year. The largest percentage of these is “runaways”; followed by “family abductions”; then “lost or injured children”. “Nonfamily abductions” is the smallest category but the one in which the child is at greatest risk. Close to 60-thousand kids each year are taken by non-family members. Many of them are killed and most of the rest are exploited in some way. Among the most important things parents can do to keep kids safe is to not forget the older children. While you are giving your kids more freedom as they reach the ages of 11 - to - 17 they remain equally at risk to abduction or exploitation. (Biz name)… tell your kids its better to be safe than polite. It’s OK to say no to an adult if they touch them or treat them in a way that makes them feel uncomfortable. Good advice, it’s a courtesy… (Biz name + city. Sentence or 2 about the business, perhaps just the company slogan. + contact information such as web site, physical address, or phone number. Biz name + city)
#2
(Biz name + city)…reminds listeners that numerous children’s organizations including Child Lures Prevention report that the warning to youngsters to “beware of strangers” doesn’t work. It doesn’t work because children think a stranger wears a dark hooded overcoat or is dirty and unkempt in some fashion, or that they look “scary”. The fact is a child abuser, or exploiter, looks just like you and me. The "stranger-danger" message is not effective and, based on what we know about those who harm children; danger to children is greater from someone their family knows than from a "stranger." __(biz name)__ says keep your children safer by talking to them about safety issues in a comfortable non-threatening manner. Children will feel comfortable telling you when they’ve been hurt or felt threatened if they know you’re OK talking about it. Good advice, it’s a courtesy of … (Biz name + city. Sentence or 2 about the business, perhaps just the company slogan. + contact information such as web site, physical address, or phone number. Biz name + city)
#3
(Biz name + city)…reminds listeners that children are our future and their protection is everyone’s responsibility. Nearly 50,000 nonfamily abductions occur yearly in the U.S. Child safety experts tell us that child abductors use lures, or tricks, to earn your youngsters trust. As its Number 1 safety tip to prevent child abductions the F-B-I identifies the best tool as being a ‘Kid code’. (Biz name)…sayskids and parents should agree on a special code word or phrase that is easy to remember. This way if an abductor tries to lure your child with a made up story the child can ask for their code word and find out if this stranger is truthful, or possibly dangerous. With no code word the kids should get away and get help. When you calmly explain to your kids how and when they should use their ‘kid code’ you’ll have gone a long way toward ensuring their safety. That’s an important reminder… (Biz name + city. Sentence or 2 about the business, perhaps just the company slogan. + contact information such as web site, physical address, or phone number. Drug Prevention - At back to school time we air a series of messages intended to call attension to the problem of drug abuse by kids of all shapes, sizes, sexes and races
#1
(Biz name + city)… reminds parents that if you have kids the day may come when they ask if you’ve ever done drugs. However you answer the question, experts say what is important is that you do talk with your kids about drugs. Explain to them that even drugs that some consider tame have lasting negative effects on their brains, and immediate dangerous effects on their safety. Marijuana is usually the first illegal drug a teenager tries. Contrary to popular belief, marijuana is addictive according to studies including one from the respected University of Michigan Health System. They say the younger you are when you first use marijuana, the greater the chances that you will go on to try "harder" drugs. (Biz name)… asks you to share this information with your kids and help protect them against the lure of drugs. This is from… (Biz name + city. Sentence or 2 about the business, perhaps just the company slogan. + contact information such as web site, physical address, or phone number. Happy holidays from Biz name + city).
#2
(Biz name + city)… asks parents to talk with your children about the dangers of drugs. Help destroy the myths and lies teens have been hearing from their classmates for decades. Your kids have probably been told that drugs like marijuana and ecstasy are not addictive. However numerous studies say otherwise. In fact people continue to take these drugs despite experiencing unpleasant side effects, and other social, behavioral, and health consequences. Another myth is that “everybody does it”. Yet, repeated studies and surveys of teens put the highest percentage of those that use drugs at no more than 22–percent. (Biz name)… says tell your young adults 4-out–of-5 teens can’t be wrong. Don’t do drugs. This is from… (Biz name + city. Sentence or 2 about the business, perhaps just the company slogan. + contact information such as web site, physical address, or phone number. #3 (as voiced by a teenager)
Hi. I’m seventeen years old. I’m a senior in high school. I live with both my parents in a nice house in a nice neighborhood. I get good grades. I’m involved in school activities. I also work a part time job. As often as possible I go out with friends on Friday and Saturday nights. And I see drugs all the time. I see them at school and at parties. I know a lot of kids who get high. It seems a waste of time to me. I don’t do drugs; part of the reason I don’t is because I’m scared…mostly of my parents and getting in trouble with them, as well as the school, and police. But mostly I don’t do drugs because I’ve got better things to do. I want to do something with my life and I think drugs would just get in the way. I think a lot of my friends and people I know get high because they’re bored; or because they have nothing better to do. I just think it’s stupid. This important messages is from … (Biz name + city. Drunk Driving Prevention Messages warning of the dangers of drinking and driving and offering ideas on how to be accountable to yourself and others on the road are aired in the 4th quarter every year just before, during, and shortly after the holidays.
#1
(Biz name + city)…reminds you that a social tradition going back centuries is enjoying alcoholic beverages at holiday gatherings. Unfortunately drunk driving is a long tradition too. The first tradition can happily continue. The second kills thousands each year and must not be a tradition passed on to our kids. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, every year there are over 4-thousand auto fatalities in the U.S. between Thanksgiving and New Years Day. Nearly 40 percent of these are alcohol related. We all want the holidays to be about family, togetherness, and celebration not sadness, and grieving over the premature loss of a loved one. Please, if you’re drinking keep it relatively harmless. (biz name)… asks you to plan in advance not to drink and drive. Spend the night, call a cab, or use a designated driver. There are always options and there are no excuses for driving drunk. This important message is brought to you by… (Biz name + city. Sentence or 2 about the business, perhaps just the company slogan. + contact information such as web site, physical address, or phone number. Biz name + city).
#2
(Biz name + city)…reminds you that the majority of people who are arrested for driving drunk are not alcohol dependant. Midnight to 3 AM is the mostly likely time of the day a drunk will cause a fatal crash. Two-thirds of all fatal accidents occur on Friday or Saturday nights. Beer is the drink of choice for most drunk drivers. And according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration over 4-thousand deaths occur on our roadways every year between Thanksgiving and New Years Day. Almost 40 percent of these are alcohol related. This holiday season you now may know more than previous about when and how you or others might drink and drive. (biz name)… asks if you know the times and circumstances under which people are most likely to drink and drive will you do your part to take preventative action? Please don’t drink and drive. This message is a courtesy of… (Biz name + city. Sentence or 2 about the business, perhaps just the company slogan. + contact information such as web site, physical address, or phone number. (Biz name + city)…reminds you that a social tradition going back decades is enjoying alcoholic beverages at Superbowl parties. Unfortunately drunk driving is a long tradition too. The first tradition can happily continue. The second kills thousands each year and must not be a tradition passed on to our kids. And according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration a higher percentage of fatal car accidents involve alcohol on Super Bowl Sunday than on any other day of the year. We all want the game to be about togetherness, and celebration of your team’s victory not sadness, and grieving over the premature loss of a friend or loved one. Please, if you’re drinking keep it relatively harmless. (biz name)… asks you to plan in advance not to drink and drive. Spend the night, call a cab, or use a designated driver. Holiday Giving
In the fourth quarter we work with businesses to promote worthwhile organizations like Northwest Harvest and St. Vincent de Paul and other local food and clothing drives.
#1 (For airing during the 4th Qtr only)
(Biz name + city)…reminds you that more than 35-million Americans live below the poverty line. Many believe poverty is passed on from the parents. Others say the individuals are to blame. They claim the decisions of the poor and their actions or inactions keep them from our nation’s many blessings. It’s debatable whether it’s personal responsibility, history or something else. But as any kid will tell you... (child's voice) "for poor children, it’s not their fault." The National Center for Children in Poverty says more than 26-million American kids are from low-income families. (Biz name)… says during this special season lets make sure all of them can celebrate, or at least have a nice holiday meal. Give a gift of food, clothing, time, or money to a local organization helping families and brighten the season for the children. This is from… (Biz name + city. Sentence or 2 about the business, perhaps just the company slogan. + contact information such as web site, physical address, or phone number. Happy holidays from Biz name + city).
#2 (for airing in January only)
(Biz name + city)… reminds fellow Americans that the holiday season is when more charitable dollars are given and more volunteerism takes place than at any other time. Unfortunately, those in need remain in need even when the calendar has changed. The National Center for Children in Poverty says more than 26-million American kids are from low-income families. And a child's economic circumstances are never their fault. (biz name)...says do what you can to continue your charitable giving year round, in the fashion that you choose. Please give a gift of food, clothing, or money. Or volunteer your time to a local church or organization that helps with issues that you care about. And keep the generousity going year round. That’s an important reminder… (Biz name + city. Sentence or 2 about the business, perhaps just the company slogan. + contact information such as web site, physical address, or phone number. Biz name + city).
#3 (For airing during the 4th Qtr only)
(Biz name + city)… reminds you that charities receive approximately 40-percent of their contributions during the holidays. With half a million federally recognized charities soliciting contributions, chances are you'll be asked to donate. Unfortunately, the fear of an organization’s worthiness prevents more generosity. The Federal Trade Commission offers tips to help eliminate those fears and give more wisely. Among these are to ask solicitors for written information and I-D. Refuse high pressure appeals. Avoid organizations with names or logos similar to known legitimate charities; and when possible give with checks instead of cash. Most importantly, (biz name)...says do give generously food, clothing, time or money to a local organization and show why the holidays are the season of giving. Happy holidays from… (Biz name + city. Sentence or 2 about the business, perhaps just the company slogan. + contact information such as web site, physical address, or phone number. Happy holidays from Biz name + city).
